GP PAPS® 18500 v3 LUX Edition
The Lux edition of a wonderful little mod with some big features!
The PAPS mod!
The PAPS mod started as a project in Athens and presented first time on the Hellenic forum ekapnisma.gr LΙΝΚ on 15th September 2011.
The first prototypes had brass switches and top caps with aluminium tubes.
In December 2011, George posted a video with a prototype GP PAPS® prototype presented on Youtube on 15th December 2011 for 18350 and 16340 batteries able to stand upright and unlocked.
GP PAPS® v0 came out with 303 SS welded tube, brass cap and button and circulated in Hellas and Germany. A few units have only 1 vent hole, while most of them have 4 in the tube and one in the button. 18350 was the default mode.
A full SS GP PAPS® v0 comes out and it was sold in Athens and Germany. It was made from 303 SS welded tubes and had 5 vent holes. 18350 was the default mode.
GP PAPS® v1 released internationally, it was made from 303 SS rods, it had laser engravings, 303 SS cap and button all parts in polished and brushed finish and it was available via lists from Vaporwall forum.
GP PAPS® v2 follows soon with an improved button. During that period we created an extra size, the 18800 mode for a 18650 AW IMR battery + Kick. Both versions have C-clip to hold the button and they are made from 304 SS rods. It has 4 vent holes in the tube. 18350 is the default mode and only this tube was serialised.
GP PAPS® v2.1 was made from EU certified 304 SS rods, it came out in polished and brushed finish with a new logo and the GP Telescopic Centre Post v2.1 instead of a hot spring, initially designed for the GP PAPS® X during August of 2012. A nut was holding the button now. It had 4 vent holes in the tube. 18350 was the default mode and only this tube was serialised. Our logo was laser engraved.
GP PAPS® v2.5 appears in SS edition and LUX Edition and uses GP®Telescopic Centre Post v2.5. The SS edition is made from EU certified 316 SS rods. The mod has a brushed finish and polished ends, it's able to stand upright and unlocked without firing, passing the drunken vaper test, as we like to say. The button travel is 0,7 mm. The LUX Edition has its own numbering. The bottom and top caps are made from EU certified 316 SS rods and the Aluminium Bronze tubes are made from an alloy 4 times more expensive than the 316 SS. We used 25 mm OD Aluminium Bronze rods. The button and the telescopic post is 24 k gold over silver plated brass. Our logo is laser engraved in the SS Edition and CNC engraved in the Lux Edition. It has 4 vent holes in the tube. 18350 is the default mode and only this one is serialised. The threading from now on is calibrated and the precision is increased. The switch has no knurling and we have created 4 ridges with 0,1 mm height on the bottom of the locking ring.
The GP PAPS® v2.5 can stand upright without any need of being locked. The grooves on the top cap have been made with a different tool this time, they are smoother, less deep and more wide. Another advantage is the button fires with even less pressure than before. It is almost a touch button.
GP PAPS® v3 begins to be produced from EU certified 316 SS rods and it will be released in February 2014. In the previous versions, we produced flat top cap and crossed top caps. No need now with the redesigned crossed grooves, their ends conclude to 1 mm opening, which is visually less obtrusive. It has no vent holes in the tube. 18500 is the default mode and only this tube is serialised with a new numbering. The vent holes have moved to the switch and they are incorporated into the design of the button in a cross-like form. GP PAPS®v3 will come out in SS Edition and Lux Edition. Both Editions will use the GPin, which replaces the GP® Telescopic Centre post and any need for further adjustments for the atomizer and the battery. The locking ring has reverse threading from now on.
From now on. all the tubes will be CNC engraved with our logotype and our insignia, the aeolipile.
GP PAPS LUX Edition v3 replaces the previous v2.5.
The switch has a screw instead of nut and the telescopic post is replaced by the GPin, no need for adjustements any more. When you screw the switch v3 into the tube, put the locking ring in the unlocked position and turn and push at the same time to keep it unlocked, until the switch is screwed all the way and it is flush with the tube. It is normal to feel the tension of the GPin in the last 2 threads. Due to varied lengths of Kick2 module and the difference in length of many IMR batteries, theres is a possibility for a few combinations of Kick2 with certain batteries in certain size, to occur a small gap. This is something that is out of our control, although we did what is possible to minimise that. Moreover, we provide an additional silver plated spring which can be trimmed a bit for use with the GP PAPS v3 and a kick2 module in 18350 mode and a shorter pin as well.
The locking ring has reverse threading.The caps are made from EU certified 316 SS. The tube is made from aluminium bronze, four times more expensive than the 316 SS with high percentage of copper. Admiralty brass has 71% Cu and naval brass has 60% Cu, while the aluminium bronze goes to 91% Cu plus 7% Al.
The small percentages of tin, aluminium, nickel, zinc and phosphorus that make up copper alloys degrade the electrical performance of the resulting alloy to a far greater percentage than their compositional percentage in the alloy. We chose aluminium bronze and not other ones with nickel or phosphorus as a more conductive, safer and harder material. Moreover the odour is less and the patina is growing slower from other copper alloys.
It is harder than brass, but it is softer than steel. The button is from aluminium bronze, while the GPin and the negative post have are plated with 15+ micron silver over brass for the best conductivity.The grooves on the top cap are 3D engraved and their edges are narrow for a better visual integration with atomizers with side air holes.
All threads are calibrated, so the switch is compatible with tubes from previous versions, but the Lux tube is compatible only with the switch v2.5 and up.
The Lux switch won't be available as spare, while the switch v3 will be. The Lux tube will be available in 18350 and 18650 as spares with the GP® logo and our insignia the aeolipile CNC engraved.
The default tube of the LUX is the 18500 and it is serialised. The LUX tube's threading is compatible only with the switches v2.5, v3 and the switches v2.5 LUX, and any future upgrades.The threads compatibility is 90% for v2.1 (the v2.1 switch with a rectangle holding nut and right handed threads is incompatible) and 50% for v1, v2 due to calibrated threads of v2.5 for reasons of better conductivity.
The unit comes in hand polished finish made by our skilled polishers.
You can use the kick module with a 18350 AW IMR battery inside the 18500 tube of the GP PAPS® mod.
You can use the kick module with a 18490 AW IMR battery inside the 18650 tube of the GP PAPS® mod.
You can use the kick module with a 18650 AW IMR battery inside the 18800 tube v2.1 of the GP PAPS® mod.
We recommend AW IMR BATTERIES for the PAPS mods of all versions.

A note of caution, don't pass any abrasive cleaner like BRASSO over the gold plated parts, it will peel off the coating. A soft wet cloth is enough, avoid rubbing the surface or using any chemicals and don't put the gold plated parts inside an ultrasonic cleaner.
